Personally sourced by us, our sustainable Brazilian Teak is providing income to indigenous communities.
Cumaru Hardwood.
Our Brazilian Teak, traditionally known as Cumaru, is sustainably sourced from a remote area in Brazil called Acre. The logging of this timber only happens 4 months of the year, and provides jobs and income for local indigenous communities in the area. The timber is sourced under strict environmental laws, and once the allocated timber is logged, the area is then untouchable for the next 25 years. The indigenous communities rely heavily on this industry for their livelihoods, as there is only one other industry in the area. We are proud to be supporting local indigenous groups in Acre through our business, and are in regular contact with our partner in Brazil to ensure safe and sustainable practices are being met.
Cumaru hardwood is perfect for the New Zealand environment and lifestyle. The most durable untreated timber on the market, Cumaru can provide a lifespan of 50 years or more. It not only lasts a long time, but has the beauty of an interior hardwood and maintains its structural integrity as it ages. It outlasts other popular wood decking species such as treated Pine, Cedar, Redwood and Douglas Fir, and has a rich honey brown colour with beautiful grain characteristics. No two pieces are the same in Cumaru, which is part of the beauty of it; it’s rich in texture and colour. And if oiled and looked after, your Cumaru deck or floors will retain their beautiful colour and last a lifetime.
